DESICCATED THYROID

Are you on thyroid medication but still have signs of symptoms of low thyroid function?
Tired? Can't lose weight? Depressed? Cold body temperature?
A study involving people with hypothyroidism on conventional thyroid medication found that despite normal blood levels of thyroid hormones, many of them continued to have low thyroid symptoms, such as fatigue, higher body weight despite eating less calories, and a greater likelihood of anti-depressant use.

In a randomized double-blind cross-over study of hypothyroid patients, 48.6% preferred desiccated thyroid over conventional thyroid medication and lost weight and had significantly improved symptoms while taking desiccated thyroid. (Click on study #2 below)
Yet another study showed that 78% of hypothyroid patients preferred desiccated thyroid over conventional thyroid medication and had persistent hypothyroid complaints while taking conventional medication. (Click on study #3 below)
What is the difference between desiccated thyroid & conventional thyroid medication?
Conventional thyroid medication only supplies the T4 hormone, which is inactive. The body needs to convert this inactive hormone into its active form (T3) to work. However, many factors can affect its conversion, including mineral deficiencies, medications, and environmental toxins.
Desiccated thyroid supplies both T4 and T3 so that you do not need to depend on the body to convert it into the active T3 form.
Dr. Chow is certified in prescribing desiccated thyroid and carefully monitors bloodwork while you are on it. She is also happy to consult and collaborate with your medical doctor on the use of desiccated thyroid to see if this treatment is appropriate for you.
